Ghost Houses

Ghost Houses is an acrylic painting and part of my series, “California fires wild.”
In the span of a couple minutes to hours, the wildfires in California spread quickly and become hard to contain. I was struck by our ability to do little as a force beyond our measure ravaged our homes and lives. The built structures crumbled, but where do the memories and experiences that aren’t tangible reside? In this painting, washes of violet and orange splash and drip into forces of their own, while the line work disintegrates into washes of Smokey grey. I energetically added white acrylic line work into the diagonal to display remnants of the homes and memories left behind as the fire burns through.
